BUILD DEDICATED PLEX MEDIA SERVER 1080P
Would I be able to stream and transcode 1080p to at least 2 people with this setup? I also removed one HDD as I only need 3TB for now but want the option to add more in the future as I need it. Im currently running a Plex Media Server as a Virtual Machine on an R510 with dual Xeon E5645 2. I'd like a case that is more square and not too high since I want it to fit on a shelf. I think I would prefer the first option but used the case I linked in my post. Currently needs to be able to support 2 x. Ideally going for a small sleek looking case (ideally quiet too). The second option you posted feels like overkill for me to achieve that, but I don't know enough to be certain about that. It's one thing to build a dedicated Plex Media Server, it's another to plan for future expansion. With that being said, I need two people streaming / transcoding now (or in the foreseeable future) at most. Building an online Plex dedicated server is easier than you think. I do want it to be able to transcode in the future, should the need arise. I think as of right now I can direct play the content I have. If your clients need to transcode, you need a more powerful CPU. A NAS is normally cheapest, but i'll put an option for you to build below. In the future I would like this build to be able stream to at least two devices with 1080p and am wondering if that should be possible? Also, am I missing anything for this to work as a dedicated PMS? I won't use the PC for anything else as I have a dedicated gaming PC already. Currently I live in a shitty building with terrible internet so streaming when not at home is not an option. This is the first time I'm building from scratch so I'd like some input on the build.
